For those who follow me on Flickr or who are friends on Facebook, you will know that I have recently returned from a trip to Bulgaria with friends to explore several locations. Due to the state of the roads in Bulgaria, no one gets anywhere quick and it’s quite an unknown country for those more familiar with exploring abandoned stuff in Belgium, Germany and France. We managed about five locations but met with hostility and armed security on one occasion.
Thankfully, we managed to photograph it on late Saturday afternoon in the mist (see my last blog post) but arranged to get up stupid o’clock and go for sunrise which was 50 minutes from our hotel.
After about 3 hours sleep, we left the hotel for the drive back to Buzludzha. It was well worth the extra slog to the top again as we had an uninterrupted 4 hours here before leaving to drive back towards the airport.
The view you get when you first climb the stairs into the main auditorium is breathtaking. The main foyer – all of the original art has been removed from this floor. The view from the outer circle looking out across the mountains.
‘Thanks for looking in.
