Chernobyl and Pripyat…

8th April 2014

Well today’s the day I go to the Ukraine with 35 other explorers and spend a week doing many things including exploring Pripyat, shooting AK47s amongst like-minded others (some friends some never met) and cheap alcohol.

Today I share an image I took on the last trip which was 18 months previous. An amusement park in Pripyat that was going to be opened right after the May 1st festivities of 1986. Because of the Chernobyl accident the ferris wheel, swings and bumper cars were never used.

The city of Pripyat was built in 1970 to house the families of the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear plant. The town was abandoned in 1986 following the disaster at the nuclear power plant and the 30-kilometer area around the power plant was evacuated to restrict access to hazardous areas, reduce the spread of radiological contamination and conduct radiological and ecological monitoring activities.

'No fun'Thanks for looking in. Stay safe.
